Simon grew up in Rochester, NY, working in his family’s restaurant from the time he was 14. Andrea was raised in Monterrey, Mexico, where food, family, and hospitality were a way of life. The two met as kids during Simon’s visits to Monterrey, and years later, they found themselves not only in love—but united by a desire to share something meaningful with the world.

Together, they’ve created more than just a restaurant. They’ve created a space where tradition meets warmth, where every guest is welcomed like family, and where every meal tells a story.

2024

A Home for Tradition

With a loyal following and a menu full of Monterrey flavor, it was time to put down roots. Simon and Andrea renovated a space on Culver Road and turned it into something special—a warm, welcoming taquería that feels like stepping into their home. The restaurant opened its doors in 2024, blending handcrafted food with heartfelt service, all rooted in the traditions they grew up with.

Now, Taqueria Monterrey proudly serves the best traditional Mexican food in Rochester. Every dish that leaves the kitchen is made with purpose and passion—from handmade tortillas to slow-marinated meats. Simon and Andrea are still right there in the middle of it all, greeting guests, perfecting recipes, and keeping the spirit of Monterrey alive in every meal.

Completely and totally delicious. They make their own corn tortillas and the tacos are superb. It’s a real Taqueria. Homemade salsas are also completely excellent. The pork tacos were probably my favorite, but everything was great. Easily as good as many places in San Francisco and Austin. Highly recommend.

Amazing place to have some authentic Mexican food! Their tortillas are handmade which makes a huge difference. Their salsas are incredible and the owners are very nice. The barbacoa is authentic and their pastor tacos are actually made in a Trompo! Thank you for bringing a little taste of home to Rochester!
